SakeSommelier.com is a passion project brought to life by an unlikely pair — a stocky Japanese salaryman with a deep love of wine and food, and a lanky two-metre German with an awkward sense of humour and an unquenchable thirst for adventure.

Lifelong friends, they found themselves reliving their university days during COVID — confined to the same building in Japan, almost two decades after graduating together in the UK. Emboldened by this lucky second chapter (and thanks to extraordinarily patient wives), they plunged headfirst into the world of sake — emerging, somehow, with WSET Level 3 qualifications.

They soon realised the barrier to entry into sake's world is no small feat — for foreigners and locals alike. SakeSommelier.com is the bridge they are building to bring sake to the world, one delicious sip at a time.
